Clarke Daniel, Maryland real estate developer, dies at 99
March 21, 2010Clarke Daniel, a Washington area real estate developer, wanted to build a shopping center on a plot in Riverdale, but it had too many trees. It was December 1947, and earlier that month Elliott Roosevelt, the son of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, offered $1 Yule trees from his farm in New York. Roosevelt said he wanted to "make Christians out of Christmas tree dealers."
